Autonomous Navigation
Chronicles of Other Worlds.
Chapter 12: Autonomous Navigation Human cryptobiosis was a technology created by scientists on planet Earth in the year 2060, a great scientific achievement for humanity.
Planet Earth was entering an ice age due to the great radiation that was destroying its atmosphere and life. Space colonization began on the Moon (2088) and Mars (2099). The first inhabitants lived in life-supporting technological pods that were self-sustaining, produced organic food, oxygen and atmosphere, and provided protection from space radiation.
Beginning in 2100, these cocoons expanded into small cities.
Human cryptobiosis was already a reality in 2100, as space technology already provided safe and fast transportation, taking the human race in protected modules to habitable exoplanets with plenty of water, soil, oxygen, and a nature very similar to that of the ancient planet Earth, but very far away.
A selection of special and essential people for colonization was determined by artificial intelligence. The first androids were the human workforce responsible for human survival in space transportation to the exoplanets. Humans, in cryptobiotic modules, completely suspended their biological activities in order to survive in extreme conditions, such as resistance to radiation, dehydration and even the vacuum of space.
