THE FORGOTTEN PLANET
4- The Firstborn (The Age of Ether)
The oldest of the known civilizations, the Firstborn, flourished millions of years ago, when Eryndor was still a young world, bathed in oceans of liquid energy. They were not beings of flesh, but hybrid entities of plasma and consciousness, capable of shaping reality by manipulating electromagnetic fields. Their cities, built with a material called vitreous crystal, floated without physical support, sustained by energy networks that connected the planet's core to the atmosphere.
The Firstborn worshiped the Heart of Eryndor, an energetic anomaly in the planetary core that they believed to be the source of all creation. They developed a technology called Ethereal Weaving, which allowed them to "weave" matter and energy in harmony, creating everything from weapons that dissolved mountains to works of art that sang at frequencies beyond perception. However, their ambition led them to attempt to "awaken" the Heart, an experiment that resulted in the First Fracture—a catastrophe that split the planet into dimensional layers, fragmenting its cities and trapping most of the Firstborn in a state of semi-existence, trapped between reality and the void.
Legacy: The ruins that Kael-13 explores in the Arid Zones are the remains of a Firstborn city, where vitreous crystal machines still emit faint pulses, as if trying to communicate. The entity of light and shadow that Lyra-9 saw may be an echo of a Firstborn, or even a fragment of the Heart of Eryndor itself.
